Help Please.........

abby454February 2, 2007

I am starting a divorce and have recently moved. I always had land and grew everythingthing I could inside and out. I am now in an apartment so all I have is a porch. I was wondering excatly what I could do with a limited space like that. I do love growing vegtables & flowers. I also am looking for anything that will do well indoors that I could bring in for the winter. Does anyone have any tips? I want to grow as much as possible in my limted area.

Hi Abby,

I'm not able to do vegetables but I have a large variety of indoor houseplants, various tropicals and cacti, including flowering ones, such as a lovely Azalea my sister gave me just before it started blooming this January! Let me know if you'd like the names of some basic tropicals, but one that comes to mind and is easy to care for is called a snake plant.

You will have to consider how much sunlight you have too.

I'm in Toronto and the outside temps are currently -30 Celsius with the wind chill so we can't leave too much outdoors over the winter but I do have a mugo pine and boxwood to give me some greenery on the balcony. I plan to expand on this with more dwarf varieties in the coming season.

Not sure if this helps you any ..?

It would help a lot if you could give us a general idea of where you live and which direction your balcony faces, and whether it is shaded or not.
