Foxgloves in containers

hyacinthgirlMay 27, 2006

I love foxgloves but, living in an apartment, don't have any wet, shady areas. Has anyone successfully grown foxgloves in containers on their balcony?

Although my deck is south-facing, I can create some shade and in fact have a large conifer covering a portion of the deck, which gives some filtered sunlight, at best, to that area.

I live in Vancouver, so it isn't too hot here at the best of times.

I'd appreciate any advice; thanks,

Laura

I had some Foxgloves in containers last year. They were so pretty and did very well. They received 1/2 day of sun. My only complaint is that they didn't reseed and return this year.

My containered foxglove is putting on a show right now!

My balcony faces south as well; the plant is growing in what passes for full sun out there - sunrise to about 11:00 A.M. - and part sun/part shade for the rest of the day.

My only regret is that I don't have enough space to have a whole stand of them.

Wow: thanks! Now I'm encouraged; I'll have to go and pick some out. I guess I'll see if they'll survive the winter here in a container.
Your pictures are gorgeous.
