Little black insects on my Proven Winners petunias

beths96June 7, 2012

Hello! I have two hanging baskets on my front porch that have three Proven Winners Supertunias (bubblegum, silverberry, and raspberry colors). THey are doing well, but I noticed yesterday that there are tiny black insects on the petals. At first, I thought it was specks of soil...that's exactly what it looks like. But I'm sure they are some kind of bug.

I've dealt with this before, but the insects were white. What should I do? The insects that were white killed my Supertunias last year because I let it go too long and didn't deal with the problem.

I spent too much on these plants (and they are doing too well!) to let them die! What should I use?

THank you!

Beth

ps - I'll post pictures if needed.

Pictures, as long as they show us the problem, are always helpful. Also, it might be helpful if you tried to describe the damage that these 'black specks' are doing. What problems do you notice?

Sounds like worm/caterpillar poo to me! Bud worms maybe?

A lot of the time when people see "little black things" on their Petunias, they're seeds.
