How to prune a Grape Vine

zarafcFebruary 13, 2014

This is my 1st post. Well 2nd actually as I posted this on the wrong forum earlier.

We have a Vine (black grape) on the terrace that makes a nice cover of grapes in the summer months. It has grown out of control and I would like to prune back as much as possible and start over without losing the main trunk.

I would like to know how to prune this. How much I can cut off and what I should be aware of.
Thanks in advance for any help

To get fruit next year you need to leave some buds on this years growth. A picture is worth a thousand words.

Go to You Tube and search for pruning grape vines on trellis. You will learn a lot there.

We have a small vineyard, and pruning is very important. They sure can take over!
