red flame grapes (I think) broke

missa7(7/Okla)February 8, 2013

My dogs broke my grape plant a few inches above ground level ... will it come back or is it dead?
It was dormant when it happened & it's still dormant obviously, LOL.
I'm really hoping it comes back.
Thanks

time will tell..

but in my experience.. it takes a lot more to kill a grape .. than a broken branch ...

you dont mention how big.. or how long its been there ... how 'established' it is.. will dictate how fast it responds ..

Ken- do you grow grapes up in your zone 5 and if so, what types? I want to put a few in here and am not sure which varieties to go with. I want them to live and produce, not just hang on and wish they were dead.

I'd be surprised if it didn't grow back even it was cut off at ground level.

Anything above the break can be cut into segments for propagating new vines. The length of each cutting should be around 4 nodes, I think, with 2 nodes buried and 2 above the rooting medium/soil.
