Relocating small apple tree

TauriiFebruary 11, 2013

Last spring I planted a small apple tree. It is now about 6 feet tall. I am thinking about relocating the tree to a different part of the yard. How difficult is this going to be without killing the tree? The tree is a Honeycrisp apple tree. Thanks for the help!

I've done that many times. I try to move a good size rootball but if done early with that size tree could be done bare root. Early is as soon as the soil dries this spring.

I'm going to be doing the same thing, though my apple has been in the ground for 2 years, I think. It hasn't done well in it's current location for a variety of reasons, one being it's right next to a dark concrete wall that get's really hot in afternoon sun - hot enough to not want to touch it in summer.

Anyway, thanks for instilling confidence that this can go well for the tree. I've already got the hole dug and mostly filled with loosened amended soil.
