Emma Prusch Farm Park

Bradybb(wa8)March 22, 2013

I just spent a week in the San Francisco Bay area and while looking for places to visit,I found this gem in San Jose.
Emma Prusch,a native San Josean, gave the land to the city in 1962.
There are citrus, probably over one hundred stone and pome fruit trees,a lot of figs and exotic fruit.
Most of the trees are kept small and some fruit is allowed to be picked.
There are also areas where people can grow their own vegetables.
It's too bad they didn't do this with Luther Burbank's Experimental Farm,as now it is only a shadow of what it was.He probably didn't set up a will though. Brady

Here is a video with John Kohler of Growing Your Greens visiting the park.

I was at Luther Burbank's farm last week and agree its a shame such an historical landmark was not better preserved. It is right in the middle of an apartment complex built on the land, and random saved trees can be seen between apartments. Still, there are a few acres they preserved which add up to an area similar to the planting at Prusch Park so I guess its better than nothing.

PS picture attached, notice the old wood beam propping up the tree.
