American Indians used leaf tea for colds, fever, flu symptoms,,stomach cramps, coughs and bowel ailments.Historically doctors used this mint as a carminative, digestive and diuretic.and to regulate menses. Oil is high in thymol:antiseptic, expels worms. Thymol now manufactured syntheticly, was once commercially derived from thyme. During WW1 commercial fields were destroyed in europe and horsemint was grown in the US as a substitute for thyme.

oakleif, you've said before with these types of posts that your information comes from a Peterson field guide to herbs.

If you're quoting from the book it's a good idea to acknowledge it, and any quotes should be limited, otherwise there's potential for copyright violation for which GardenWeb might be held liable.

The DMCA protects gardenweb to an extent, but should someone come along and the material not be properly sourced and attributed gardenweb would probably have to pull down the whole thread.
