Is it possible to let a tincture sit too long?

Joy LarrabeeDecember 29, 2013

I am attempting to make a Black Walnut hull tincture. Three months ago, I set it in a dark closet, then unfortunately forgot about it. Most recipes I see recommend letting the mixture sit for 2 - 3 weeks. Have I ruined it? Thank you.

nope, its fine. kept in a tightly sealed container in the dark most tinctures can remain potent for a decade or more. there are some exceptions, it depends on the herb and storage conditions obviously, but 3 months is perfect for most any tincture, 2-3 weeks is very minimal, 3 months much better.

good for you!

Thank you. When I moved to this property I was excited to find two black walnut trees. This year I figured I would make a tincture. Next year I will attempt to dry & powder some of the hulls.
