So you are talking about Scutellaria lateriflora which is a member of the Lamiaceae family (Mint family, formerly known as Labiatae)

Now why is it that you will not touch it with a 10 foot pole if you have already used it? Or is the skullcap you used before a different skullcap?

Labiatae = former name of the mint family
Stachys = genus of hedge nettles
Scutellaria = genus of skullcaps
Monarda didyma = Oswego Tea
Mint Family has 31 genera represented in my state. Very popular with hummingbird & butterfly gardening. Do they have any herbal application....I don't know, but I have several of the native ones ie skullcaps and bee balms and they are great plants.

Thanks Sam,
Any idea how gymnosperms fit in to all of this?

Is this a common mixture of herbs? Is that why they are all clumped together perhaps?
