Mulberry: Oscar's or Illinois Everbearing?

glieseMarch 15, 2009

Hi. Can anyone give me an opinion on which mulberry is generally better between Oscar's and Illinois Everbearing? I hear that Illinois Everbearing is supposed to be the standard by which all others are measured, but I just thought I check and see.

I had one Oscar that died- I thought maybe because it was a scrawny second. Then I bought another 3 years ago. It had dieback, dropped its fruit, and now has severe bark damage practically girdling the trunk that I think is a disease. IE looks great, has had tasty big fruit since the first year. My second favorite would be my weeping mulberry which has great but small berries, lovely form, and the birds can't see the berries under the weeping foliage.:-)

Oscar grew great for me- got it from Lucille of Whitman Farms. Just wasn't crazy about the fruit. IE is richer and sweeter.
