My best friend Norm has some critter chewing off the stems of his Burgundy Plum tree flowers. The flowers lay intact under his tree...on the ground. Anybody have any knowledge of this???
I had the same problem last year. Never figured out the bug doing it.
Could be a bird. But if so they would likely be eating the ovuale. The unfertilized flowers do fall off but not until the petals begin to fade.
It could be an insect but that doesn't seem likely and I've never seen that activity.
Had a little bird do this to mine. Just went up and down the branches picking off the blooms. I sat on the patio and watched it. Didn't eat anything just did it for the joy. #$%**
F....it is news to me as well. He sees evidence of the stem being chewed. My first reaction was...it sure could be a grasshopper. The greenery on the tree is at a premium because it is still leafless. Bugs getting inventive???
