Comp. planting & trench compost. R-berries?

mountainrose(z7 Georgia)April 15, 2013

Hi, I am new to raspberry gardening, but not new to gardening, and I have a couple of questions.

1. I just planted my bare root raspberries, and was wondering if I could get a quick crop of lettuce or radishes down the sides of the bed while I am waiting for the r-berry canes to break dormancy.

2. I grow quite a few roses, and I give them quite a bit of veg. and fruit scraps from the kitchen as well as eggshells dug right around the dripzone. Do raspberries benefit from trench composting methods at all?

Thank you.

1. Yes, I don't see why not.
2. As long as you don't disturb the shallow roots, raspberries like compost and should benefit from trench composting.
