Star Blueberry Hardiness

2010champsbcsApril 21, 2014

I live near Birmingham Al and I planted one Star Blueberry this fall. From what I have read I live in a questionable zone for this variety. Has anyone else tried it and how well has it survived the winter/produced berries? Our temps got down to 26 one night during its early blooming but appears to have survived with a decent crop. I would like to plant more of these but would like to know your opinions first.

I don't know how hardy it is as mine are in a greenhouse. If I were planting outside here it would be my choice to try partly because of fairly late bloom. It's the one variety I've never messed up with in 10 years. No pH issues, stem blight, or missed crops. Maybe just lucky but not likely all luck. I think it's pretty tough.

Thanks Fruitnut. I have other varieties planted but this one appears to ripen 2-3 weeks earlier. My grandchildren as well as myself would welcome earlier snacks.
