Black hairs on fruit tree

LadylanumApril 7, 2014

We just moved into a new house and we have lots of fruit trees. I have one tree that is completely covered in these little black hairs. I have searched and search the internet and books and have found nothing. Does anyone have any info on this?

Please take a picture of the trees flowers if they are on the tree. Other wise take some pics of leaves, developing fruit. Definitely take one of the entire tree..... Im sure a tree that has distinctive spines like that does should be easy to ID but its easier when we get the full picture (yes, pun intended)

What do the 'hairs' feel like? Are they stiff and bristly? Do they bend? Do they brush off?

Compare with Robinia hispida, Bristly Locust.

Here is a link that might be useful: Robinia hispida
