Apples won't grow

foggidewApril 28, 2012

My red delicious apple tree flowers every year and starts to set fruit. The fruit never gets bigger than pea size. Any ideas? Thank you.

They probably aren't pollenized.

Could it be a mis-labeled crab apple?

Or did the top die or was damaged, then the root stock came up which is a crab?

The tree blooms early so there aren't as many bees around. I'm hoping pollination is the problem or else I read up on grafting. Thanks for the answers.

Red Delicious needs another variety planted nearby to pollinate the blossoms.
