? grafted 'Fruit Cocktail' tree ...?

vieja_gw(z7NM)April 7, 2014

Hubby 'bit' (!) & bought a dwarf 'Fruit Cocktail' tree from Burgess recently. On arrival we could not see where any of the grafts on the stick had been made & on calling Burgess I was told: 'We get many ? about this but the grafts are made internally & thus not visable'!! Any others heard of any truth to this 'internal' grafting?

I told him he throws his money away on these kinds of nursery catalogs.... hope I am wrong!?

You might call T budding onto the trunk an internal graft. And you might be able to tell it was budded but maybe not. Even DWN does they're trees that way. I do mine by budding onto limbs of the rootstock. This makes a stronger attachment.

Are there limbs marked with variety? You'll know if it's a multi when it fruits.
