Thanks for your suggestion fabaceae, they are black very micro mites. Seem to like white oil. Are savaging the top juicy growth leaving them bare and curled and dead. Would a powder be better than the oil?

patid865, you'd by much better taking this over to the Citrus Forum. Neem or fine hort oil is the best product to use. I would also contact your local agricultural agent, and see if they can ID your pest for sure, since we're just guessing here with no photos. Also, be sure to simply respond to your first post instead of starting a new one. That way, all the responses are threaded along, in a conversation. Much easier to follow.

I have just pruned two old pear trees which have not been pruned for many years. Now I would like to know if there are any follow up activities needed, such as mulching, feeding etc. We are in drought and I have to carry water but that's OK. Also in spring, I assume there will be very little fruit on the new branches. Thanks for your help.
