grape leaf curl

tim45z10May 4, 2013

I have a Himrod vine. It is in its third growing season. It is loaded with grapes. Unfortunately, the leaves are all cupping inward. I am wondering why they are doing this. I appreciate your help.

There is a disease called grape leafroll virus that causes the leaves to curl downward. But the curling usually doesn't show up until late summer. On red grapes the leaves also turn red with green veins. On green grapes like Himrod the leaves turn yellow and curl down.

This disease is common in CA and many areas. There is no treatment.

You probably have something else but I'm not sure what. Any chance they are too dry? Have you or neighbors sprayed any herbicide?

I think it was lack of water. I checked the soil, it was pretty dry. I gave it a good watering and it seems some of the plant recovered. Thank you much for the help.
