Apricot trees bending over after rainstorms.

Does anyone have experience with this who could provide some advice on what to do with my apricot trees? Every time it rains, my 4 apricot trees branches, bend completely over. After the rains tops and the leaves dry, the branches are not straightening back out. They are staying bent and sagged over. Short of tying the branches to stakes, is there any other remedy for this?

The alternative is to prune back to make the tree more compact. Either heading cuts to force many branches or more selective cuts to buds/branches heading in the direction you want.

With a tree that floppy, pruning is the right thing to do. If you don't prune it will never hold up the weight of a crop.
