shade clothing on blackberry?

ksgrowerMay 29, 2012

Hi,

Can shade clothing really help to prevent white drupelet on blackberry? In past couple years, I had some white drupelets on my berries. If it does help, what density of shade clothing will be the best for blackberry? Any inputs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes it can help. About a 50% is what I'd go for. I like the woven black polypropylene because of cost and durability. Some of mine is still functioning after 30 yrs of on and off use. I like the tape and grommets on the edges. The woven type will unravel without edging.

It does help. Any place the cloth touches the ripe/ripening fruit, that fruit will cook to a purple color.
