First fruit ever!

amanda_m(z7 MD)May 24, 2013

Years ago (Five? Six?) my husband and I bought one of those small trees that has four or five different apples grafted onto one tree. It was sort of an experiment for us as we had no fruit trees or fruit tree experience.

It grew a little, put on a few blossoms here and there, but for all these years we have seen no fruit from it. We were at the point of taking it out, as we are now working hard on planting lots of edibles in the yard and have not time/space for a tree that just sort of sits there.

And don't you know it, this year it is covered (covered!) with fruit. Our friend-with-apple-experience told us to remove most of the fruit, leaving only one tiny apple per grouping. I did that the other day, with my mood veering rapidly from excitement over actually having apples on the tree and sadness over having to remove so many of them.

Anyway, I really just posted because I am excited about a possible first harvest! Picture me doing a crazy-awkward dance, "We have apples! We have apples!"

Amanda,

Make sure you spray or bag them. Or else the bugs will get them all.

I am very happy for you! Be aware that you have just had the equivent of your first "hit" and that this, as most others here can attest to, is a very addicting hobby:)
