Strange Clear Worm on Raspberry Bushes

treehugger101May 14, 2013

Several of my older raspberry bushes have chewed leaves. I flipped over a leaf and found several clear worms with tiny black heads. They are pretty much everywhere on three bushes. I spayed with an organic killer that targets any worm but I would like to know what they are. Has anyone ever seen these?

Look up raspberry sawfly. Larvae look like "worms."

I finally found it. It is the raspberry saw fly which is really a wasp not a fly. There is some good info here:

The larvae live for about 2 weeks and pupate on the ground until next year. Most growers feel the damage to the leaf is minimal and do not treat. We are anyway as the infestation on three plants is severe. I really hate bugs.
