I just received a very tall (6-7') Montmorency Cherry and planted it in a 27 gallon pot. It is one trunk leafing out. It is too tall already. Can I trim the main trunk to say, 4 or 5' now or should I wait until it is established?
I normally like to establish the scaffold at about 3 feet in the ground. But if you planted in a container then 4 feet should be OK. You can trim it now and new shoots will develop.
