stella cherries setting of fruit

anita1_gardenerMay 21, 2012

I am a new gardener

I bought two cherry trees and put them in my garden as I was instructed to do by the experts.

Now these trees are six years old were in a flowering state when I purchased them.

The blooms are all gone after facing the harsh cold and then sudden hot weather .

My leaves at their stems have ruby red growth like little beads.

Are these cherries or the cherries will come out of the nodes on the branch.

Please help.

Cherries come from the blossoms, get pretty big in a hurry, and have long stems. You should be able to easily spot the green fruits after the petals fall. Perhaps your fruit was frozen.

The ruby red growths at the base of the leaves are not fruit. The fruit is green, grows in clusters off spurs or at the base of last years wood, and has a long stem.

The red growths are nectaries intended to attract ants that protect the tree from caterpillars.
