Accidentally broke off one of the grapevine's tips?

roobixMay 11, 2012

This is the second year of my grapevine and I have 2 strong cordons/vines that are growing out shoots.

I accidentally broke off a tip of one the shoots and i'm afraid it won't grow out farther.. will that be the case?

Thanks for any help

No worry, grapes are very good at replacing any mishap like this. You won't lose much growth or affect next years crop. This assumes the grape has decent vigor.

Thank you Fruitnut! I don't know if it has vigor, but it's growing out pretty crazy :)

Exactly, one of the laterals can be encouraged to become a central leader. You will find when you start to train them to a trellis, this is what you will be doing every year anyway.
