Are these baby grapes?

bgbtorontoJune 4, 2013

Hi there, I have a Concord grape vine I planted mid summer last year. It is growing like crazy this spring after I cut back 90% of it growth in the winter from last year. I know that I am supposed to remove fruit this year to improve fruiting quality next year.

Is this fruit on the vine. If so, should I cut it off immediately?

Fruit buds. If it were me, I'd leave them on so I'd get to sample some fruit this year. But that comes from a home gardener who likes experimenting with a variety of fruit in the backyard. If you are an orchardist and trying to maximize fruit production in future years, then follow the recommended pruning program. If you are a backyardy, let those clusters flower and fruit!

I am just starting grapes, too. That looks like a flower bud to me. Mine looked like that. I thought they were baby grapes and the next day, all buds opened to florets of tiny white yellow flowers. I hope when I go out tomorrow, they will have formed grapes. Have yours been through the flowering stage yet? If so, maybe yours really are baby grapes. What fun!
