Can BlackBerries and RaspBerries Be Planted Together?

brownthumb65(8B Florida)June 21, 2011

Good Morning,

I've purchased 3 Heritage Raspberries and 3 Ebony King BlackBerries a few months ago. They were small so I repotted them and they are now taking off!

Just wondering if I can plant them together in rows or they should be separated?

Thanks,

Halime

Raspberries and Blackberries should be apart if learn a lot about 2 berries spray can be different on each berry plant. Blackberries grow larger and shade out raspberries. Heritage raspberries not going to make it in Tallahassee Fla. to hot you face north and mountain behind you you plant Heritage. On 3 plants you may get taste. Dormanred one to plant its trailing will take heat.

Thanks for the link. I don't know of any mountains near Tallahassee at all though. Thanks again!

brownthumb65, there are Mountains near COCO beach.
Just look at old "I Dream of Genie" reruns.

The two have such different growth habits that I don't think it would work. Heritage is low and bushy, the blacks are rangy until you prune them in winter. Also Heritage stays put while the Blacks "walk" where they want to go. I think the blacks are iffy for you anyway because of scant winter chilling. I've seen Heritage grown very successfully on the Gulf Coast, using only organic methods.

Thanks for the info ! Also, jolj, I'm sure you're joking. Florida has NO mountains, those were the 'Hollywood Hills" In Calif. :-)
