Apricot tree question

AiliDeSpain(6a - Utah)June 5, 2013

We have an apricot tree in the back yard that has yet to form fruit. This is only our second summer in this house but I seem to recall that it had fruit by now last year. Is there a chance it won't produce this year and if so why?
I don't know much about fruit trees.

Did it bloom? If it did bloom and you got a freeze during or right after the bloom you more than likely lost all fruit. The flowers will turn brown and fall off so will the little tiny fruit. If it did bloom w/o freeze was there bees around. There are several vairables.

It did bloom around the end of March. I know that because I posted a photo of the blooms on facebook and that was on March 30. In checking the weather history in April a hard freeze happened on April 9th and 10th and again on April 17-19. Does it sound like the blooms were affected? I would be seeing fruit by now wouldn't I?

Anything below 28F will damage the fruit and at 24F a total loss. So yes they likely were frozen. The fruit would be big by now and no it won't bloom again this year. Hopefully you'll have better luck next year. We get a crop once every 3-6 years.
