cherry tree help

I have a cherry tree that I started from seed. It has been in the ground exactly one year now. It is growing beautifully. this morning I noticed that japanese beetles are eating the leaves! yikes. what to do? will they kill the tree? how to get rid of them? appreciate any help........

With a small tree, holding a bucket of soapy water under the branch and knocking them in also works pretty well.
