Protecting your blueberries

fireduck(10a)June 4, 2013

I started growing blueberry plants in containers on my deck. Things seem to be going great. The ripe ones seem to be disappearing! Now, I know birds love them. But, I never have seen a bird over there. However, based on the huge feces in my fountain I keep finding...I am convinced there is a raccoon coming on my deck some nights. (can't seem to trap him...but got a couple opposums). Do you think the raccoon is my thief???

Raccoon's do not bother my blueberries but they do like fruit so if the poop is blue..... Birds on the other hand are a pain. Mylar ribbon helps a .22 or a pellet gun works better.

Hmmmm. "based on the huge feces in my fountain"

I certainly hope it is a raccoon and not one of your neighbors.

n....haha. I actually thought of this! Doesn't everybody have one neighbor like this? Researched the feces (ugh)...raccoons have big bimbos.

Possums LOVE berries. And have pretty impressive scat as well.

Yes,but I gave him permission. He initially asked if he could 'borrow' some and when I said yes,it seemed like he was around every morning.
