problem with muskmelons

vaherbmomJune 19, 2012

I carefully prepared the soil and planted a number of different kinds of cantalopes and muskmelons this spring. Alot of them seemed to get chewed and/or wilted or just plain disappeared. There are a few, probably 10-15%, that are doing ok. My other crops are mostly doing very well.

I replanted and even the new little seedlings are having problems--many come up and then seem to wilt. Others are ok.

Anyone know what I did wrong? I haven't had this particular problem before. I have been spraying them all with spinosad and did also do a couple early treatments with permethrin because I have had so much trouble with cucumber beetles in the past. These are dying too early, before even the cucumber beetles could be making them sick (I think?)

thanks in advance
