Methley plum still hasn't bloomed

nick_b79(4/5 Southeast MN)June 2, 2012

I planted a bare-root Methley plum 2 yr ago, and it has grown vigorously to approximately 6-7 ft tall. This is the third spring it's leafed out, and it still hasn't put out so much as one flower, much less any fruit. A Toka plum I planted this spring as a bare-root tree actually put out half a dozen blossoms already.

So, is it normal that Methley plums are slow to flower and fruit, or is there something wrong with my tree?

It's too young to worry about this.

Plums are slow, wait for year 3 or 4 to get a couple of plums. Year 5 or 6 for a lot of plums. It will change a bit depending on rootstock. For quicker results peaches are faster.
