Apple ID, Rwanda, East Africa

applenut_gwJune 18, 2014

I've been asked to ID this apple growing about the 6,000 ft. level in Rwanda, East Africa. Winter Banana is commonly grown in tropic areas, but it also looks a lot like some neglected Fuji trees I've seen. I'm not familiar with the growth habit of WB, and wondered if it also is a tip-bearer.

The pruning on the tree is terrible, productivity could increase ten times if it was trained properly.

Hard to tell from just three photos, but the calyx end of yours seems to be an "outie", while the ones in the Rwanda photo are an "innie". Could be the same apple however, or the Rwanda one could be Fuji.
