Hosui growing like a vine

yawineyJuly 30, 2013

1st year from bare-root. Some branches have gotten long and stringy. One lower branch is even hitting the ground at it's end. I would prune but iv'e heard it best to wait till fall.
Should i prune anyway?

I would not prune it until the late winter. The tree will use the energy gathered by the additional leaves to expand its root system. My Hosui grows fast and mostly straight up. If you are concerned about possible deforming of the limbs through bending, put a support pole in and tie the limbs up to hold them up right.
