My peach tree may be having a ripening issue

jumpinjoeJuly 10, 2013

Hey all, i live in san diego, the house we bought has a couple fruit trees, one of them is a peach. Now reading some threads on the internet, it seems the harvesting month is june and july. Issue im having is my tree has tons of fruits it, however they are still relatively small and green. Not sure what type it is, i can post pics if need be. Any help is appreciated. ~Joey~

Post your pics.

Just guessing because we are in a different climate and so things do not necessarily compute.

Peaches need to be culled. One peach every 8" or thereabouts on branches. Otherwise they will be small and almost inedible.

Looks like you don't enough sun exposure. Peaches need sun in order to size up, ripen and obtain sweetness.

This tree is in full sun all day. Greater than 8 hours a day

Even though your tree may be in full sun, the peaches aren't getting the sun because it appears that you're growing the tree with a central leader system. Peach trees need to be pruned to an open vase system that allows the sunlight to get to the fruit.
