fruit changing color

mrsg47(7)July 4, 2012

Hi all, happy summer. My Italian plums are still quite small but are starting to turn purple. Is it too early for them to do this? It has been hot every day for the past three weeks. In the 80's. The few that dropped in June already had hard pits. My black currants were all harvested two days ago. Usually they are not ready until the second week in July. My Elberta peaches are the size of golf balls and still have no hard pit. My four remaining apricots are the size of a nickel, green and not growing (so it seems). This has been such a strange year between the extremes of hot and cold. This is the first year my Italian Plum as set fruit, so I really don't know what to expect as far as color change goes. My strawberries are constantly regrowing and my first harvest of 'Red' raspberries is over. The Kiwi Gold berries will be ready to pick next week. Comments please. Mrs. G

Happy summer to you, too, Mrs.G47.

I have the same issue with my Italian Plum. It set perhaps a dozen fruit which started to color up very early, and then it dropped them. I assume that the tree just wasn't mature enough yet and have hopes for "next year". Here's hoping you have better luck!

Thanks M. They seem to be holding quite well (fingers crossed). I notice that if they have tinge of yellow they will drop, but these are green with beginning shades of purple only. And I only have about 17 on the tree. Thanks!
