Are purple leaf plums self pollinating? If not what type of plum will work.I have a purple leaf tree that is 5 years old it made 4 or 5 plums year before last none this year.Tree looks grate no plums.I don't know????
Is it in full sun, does it bloom fully, are pollinating insects flying while it is in bloom, do you have freezes during or after bloom?
It has full sun blooms after frost . I Have a lot of other fruit trees with good pollinating insects here is picture I don't know?
It's self pollinating but it's not really a fruit tree, it's an ornamental. The fruit is small, although it doesn't taste bad if you're looking for jelly or wine.
If you're not spraying it my guess would be curculio. They can hit all the plums when tiny and cause them to drop without noticing them if you aren't playing close attention.
Thanks for the info.I DO spray. I have peaches, plums, plum cots, figs, nectarines, grapes, apples, jujube, paw paw, pomegranate.I live in south MS.If I don't spray don't get any fruit are trees. We have bad bugs.I Will watch next spring real close. Thanks
