Prune or not prune?

thepodpiperJuly 15, 2014

I am a second year berry grower and am not quite sure what to do here. The extreme winter killed all of my flora canes so I did not get much in the way of blossoms this year but the primocanes this year are going like gangbusters. when the canes got 4 inches above the top wire I pinched the tops and now the laterals are very long, do I cut them back or do I just let them go crazy? My guess is that at some point I need to cut these back to a manageable length or I will have a very dense mess. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, you cut the laterals, some say at 18 inches only. I usually cut them back to whatever I can fit. I wait till they are dormant.
