Sick pear tree

I planted this pear tree last year and it did well, but in the last couple weeks I've noticed it looking worse and worse. Does anyone know what's wrong? And what I can do about it? I'd hate to lose it, and my other pear tree is just starting to show the beginnings of the same problem.

rootzone, which is still very limited/small in size, needs water.

Oh, that is such a relief if that's the problem. It has been very hot and we were on vacation, so I can see that it could have gotten too dry. Thanks!
