What type of plum is this?
3 years ago I purchased what I thought were 2 Damson plum seedilings. They were shipped pre season bare root, and were about 18" tall. (I have no clue where I ordered them from.) Although they are still a bit spindely, they flowered for the first time this year, and I decided to leave 3 or 4 fruits on each of the trees because I couldn't stand it! :) I cut them open tonight, and well, they sure aren't Damsons. They are close enough by sight to fool me, and I have picked and processed a bunch of them over the years. The flesh is much softer than a Damson, bright red in color, and the flesh can be removed from the stone fairly easily. The skin is a very dark purple just like the Damson fruit. The only other thing I can add is they had been grafted when I got them. The trees are close to 8' now. Any help with identifying them would be appreciated. Also, if anyone within a 100 mile radius of Harper's Ferry VA has any for sale, drop me a line. Thanks!
