blueberry pruning

Is it too late to do any pruning on b berries in north east Ohio? Still have one Bush with berries on it getting ripe. Haven't had a late ripening like this. Been caring for these bushes for 3 years now. They are quite old ( 5), 4 have been done producing.

Was thinking of some late pruning or topping to thin excessive new growth on some of them.

Thanks for any comments.

If they are Northern Highbush,it will probably be best to wait until late Winter or early Spring, when they are dormant,to prune them. Brady

FWIW my strategy this year was to prune a branch when it seemed too long, and not to adhere to any hard and fast rules. Will see how it goes. That was on younger plants that havn't produced much fruit yet, but are growing like weeds. On the other hand, the mature 5 and 6 yo bushes are late like you said, and just finished producing. They have NO new growth (or very little at best) at all this year, so nothing to prune.

I have done light pruning on blueberry shrubs in the summer and fall, as required, if a branch was damaged or diseased. However, the heavy pruning of up to 20% of branches is always done in late winter, around March 1.
