How tall can a Seckel Pear grow????

yoyobon_gwSeptember 21, 2013

About 40 years ago I planted what I understood to be a dwarf seckel pear tree.
Today that tree is probably 25 feet tall or more.
It is a large and beautiful tree but picking the fruit is almost impossible.
The lowest branches are within reach but the majority of the fruit is well beyond picking height !

This tree produces an amazing amount of pears each year and is spectacular when in bloom.

What is the normal height for the Seckel Pear???

Pears on seedling rootstock will grow to 100 feet or higher. I have seen pictures of old pear orchards and it looks like a stand of oaks.

You might try to get one of those picking poles or a tall ladder, or start pruning the tree down to size - if the main trunk is not too tall you may be able to lower it to a pick-able height.
