Got an unusually heavy apple harvest this year; in these photos is King David, Wickson Crab, and Black Oxford. All of them should have been thinned more, and need another 5 weeks on the tree.
What is the name of this crab apple tree? Tony F.
This is Wickson Crab. It was developed by Albert Etter and named after a California Secretary of Agriculture, and was marketed as a cider apple. I've tasted them back east and up at Poverty Lane orchards, and I think ours blows them away. It packs a huge apple flavor into a tiny package; this photo shows them when ripe about four weeks from now.
