What is this fruit tree?

StephenHoSeptember 20, 2013

IHello,

I have a plant growing fruits, and do not know what it is.

The fruits are small, green to yellow to deep purple when ripe. size of 1 cm diameter. Inside is yellow, soft, and sweet. The tree is now 10' tall.

Attached some pictures. Oops I can not attach pictures.

I remember this is the root part of a crafted Persimmon tree. After the persimmon died, this root grow a tree.

The question maybe what is most popular to be the base of a crafted persimmon tree?

Looks like a native persimmon to me. That's usually what's used in this country as kaki rootstock, I believe. The purple ones are beyond ripe- they have turned from orange, right?

How do you like the flavor?

Stephen,

Your grafted persimmon variety died, the root stock probably D. Lotus or Date= Plum. You can graft a better variety of Kaki or American persimmon to it if you desired.

Thank you to Tony and Harvestman,

You had helped to answer the mystery. Thanks you!

Then I google the "kaki rootstock" and found these, a good read.
