Wild Am. persimmon in New Mexico (almost)...

fabaceae_nativeOctober 17, 2012

Anybody here know anything about the naturally occurring disjunct population of American persimmon along the Canadian River in the Texas panhandle? I've been able to confirm it's existence from several sources, but would love to learn more about the extent of the population, tree form and fruit characteristics.

This is definitely the Westernmost natural population of the species, being just a stone's throw from my state. It's also in the same hardiness zone (6b) and near the same latitude.

fab,
you can contact your county extension office to see if they know anything about this American persimmon in this area.
