Rootstock for Potted Apple Trees?

shazaam(NC 7B)October 12, 2013

Does anyone have any suggestions about the best rootstock choices for potted apple trees for zone 7B in NC? If I buy from my two preferred nurseries, I'm limited to the following options:

My first instinct was to go with Bud9 since it produces a smaller tree and might fruit earlier, but, presumably, growing in containers will naturally dwarf the trees and likely encourage earlier does it really matter?

I'd do the Bud 9 mainly for one reason, being less vigorous it might not become root bound as soon as the others. It is also pretty good in most other attributes.

Here is a link that might be useful: apple rootstocks

That makes sense -- I'll go with Bud9. Thanks, fruitnut...
