Pollenizer for Black Ice Plum

marc5(6aOH)December 19, 2013

I've been reading more about this new plum, and it sounds pretty good. I think I'll give it a try. Does anyone know if my Italian prune plums (Long John and Empress) could act as pollenizers for it? Is there a wide range of bloom times for plums as there is for apples?

Any other thoughts about Black Ice would be appreciated. I'd like to get as close as I can here in the Midwest to those big fat sweet juicy western plums.

It is a cross of a cherry plum and a Japanese plum. They say toka is the best pollenizer. i don't see the Euros working at all.La Crescent is another pollenizer. Some say American plums will work too. Toka sounds like a decent plum too. Once I move I will add Toka and Black Ice. It just makes sense to grow plants that will work for your area.
