I made a boo-boo

catlover_gardenerApril 28, 2011

Yesterday, I continued my spring repotting schedule and I collected a group of orchids to repot among which is a cattleya. The tag I cannot find.

It wasn't until I finished repotting that I discovered that the cattleya had four tight little flower buds peeping out of what seemed to have blended in with the green leaves.

Question - has the repotting while in bud set back my cattleya? Will the buds continue to open?

I never saw the buds because they are still greenish and unopened, but popping out of the sheaths.

Any answers to give me hope?

I would be surprised if they didn't bloom.

The optimum time to repot catts is when the new growth starts growing roots. With some of them they don't grow roots until it is ready to bloom or in bloom. I've never lost the blooms if I repot at that time.

Did you mean "I would not be surprised if they didn't bloom", or as above?
I dearly want them to get larger and open up.

Let me try again - I would be surprised if you messed up the bloom and you couldn't enjoy it when it opened.

I thought as much, but I needed to reassure myself at the risk of being chastised.
Anyway I am happier now and will wait.
Thanks again!!!
