Kingianum newbie

sufe(9)September 24, 2009

I have my kingianum on my kitchen window sill receiving diffuse morning sun, i notice for the past 3 weeks it's been loosing it's leaves. I have the plant on a wick sytle should i worry & move it in my GH along w/ my cattleyas environment. How often do i need to fertize & what kind of fert should i used. Your opinion is appreciated thanks sufe/CA

I think it would be happy among the Cattleyas. Fert s/b low even number (brand doesn't matter) half strength weekly. Watering should be similar to Catts too, lots of water them none.

There is some more info. in a recent thread. Wick style for a kingianum is not good. The plant is adapted to survive drought at any time of year, not only in the winter. It is also adapted to survive heavy rainfall at any time of year. Last couple of months rainfall here (Southern Hemisphere)
June 69.6mm
July 49.4mm
Aug 6.2mm
Sep 19.2mm
Sorry cannot find a ruler with inches, but trust me 6.2mm of rainfall in a month is not much.
My kingianums are out in a shadehouse with mostly resting, mostly autumn flowering Cattleyas.

Here is a link that might be useful: Previous thread with kingianum info.
